This year for us, will see an intensifying of our efforts to increase our knowledge, for the purpose of being more effective in bringing others to Christ. Therefore, for the ensuing weeks, I will use this space to share each week a common rejection of God by unbelievers, and an answer to overcome the objection. I encourage you to use this as your personal study to prepare you for future conversations.
Unbeliever: “Surely God doesn’t exist. If he did, He’d appear to us in a public setting and prove it to the world”. Answer: God has already appeared publicly to humans. God knows that appearing to you publicly won’t change your heart. He knows that he has already provided enough evidence for his existence for those who truly want to know him. You can freely choose to reject him but be assured of this: on the day of judgment when you stand before God with your sins exposed, saying the evidence for God “wasn’t enough,” isn’t going to work. Surely the evidence is clear enough. “God maintains a delicate balance between keeping His existence sufficiently evident so people will know He’s there and yet hiding His presence enough so that people who want to choose to ignore Him can do it. This way, their choice of destiny is really free.” -J.P. Moreland (taken from One Minute Answers to Skeptics by Charlie H. Campbell) Blessings! -Lamar Happy New Year to all. Unbeliever: The Bible was written by men; therefore it is not trustworthy Answer: Have you read the Bible? Have you read any books or articles that give reason to reject the Bible? Were those books or articles written by men? By your own reasoning, then, that would mean what you’ve read is not trustworthy. Just because something is written by men doesn’t mean it’s not trustworthy. Humans are capable of communicating the truth. Saying otherwise would undermine the trustworthiness of everything you say. So, humans can communicate truthfully. And what if those who desired to communicate truthfully even had God’s help as they wrote-to ensure there were no errors? Then things would turn out really well, wouldn’t they? That is how the books of the Bible were written. God revealed Himself to certain people like Moses, Peter, and Paul, who wrote down what they saw and heard (Exodus 34:27; Jeremiah 30:2; 1Timothy 3:16). And we believe there are several good reasons to trust what the authors of the Bible wrote. Therefore, I choose to believe the Bible because it’s a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin. (2Peter 1:16-21). Let us always be ready to give an answer to those who ask for the reason of the hope within us. (taken from One Minute Answers to Skeptics by Charlie H. Unbeliever: There’s absolutely no evidence that God Exists Answer: I find it interesting you’ve concluded that. Might I ask you a question? What are some of the supposed evidences you have rejected? What book have you read wherein the author lays out what he thinks is the evidence for God? I’m sure you have read some of them before concluding “there’s absolutely no evidence that God exists.” When you consider the complexities of the human body, which contains 206 bones, 700 muscles and a heart that beats over 100,000 times a day and pumps 75 gallons of blood an hour through more than 600 miles of veins, arteries, and capillaries - do you really believe all of those muscles, bones and organs pieced themselves together and started functioning apart from a designer? That is just one example. We could also ask the same question of nature and the universe. If you believe there was no God who made these things, then tell me (after concluding God did not), who or what did? What you are suggesting is the same as looking at a brick wall and concluding all the perfectly positioned bricks positioned themselves without human intervention. Realizing, we know this is impossible to think: so how can we think any less about the human body without God? (taken from One Minute Answers to Skeptics by Charlie H. Campbell) Blessings! -Lamar |
