The story is told about a man who loved the Lord and couldn’t wait to go to heaven. Often he could be seen carrying a spoon in his breast pocket. When asked why, he replied, “dessert is the best part of the meal for me, I just love it, so I always carry a spoon because I am ready for dessert. He went on to explain, once this life is over, I want to be buried with a spoon in my pocket because the best is yet to come.” Where some see death as something terrible and push it away at all cost, this man welcomed the thought. He didn’t just see it as a transition into eternity, he saw it as “dessert” -the best part. I imagine many believed he was a bit crazy, but actually I reason he had a great understanding of what awaits us in eternity. Perhaps we can all take a lesson from him, and have “spoon in my pocket” mentality. Maybe if we did, more people would want what we have, and thus our spiritual lights would shine a bit brighter. For the past couple weeks, we have been tracking Jesus as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Within a week, he has been crucified and resurrected from the dead- just as he said he would. Walking through.these monumental events in Jesus’ life reminds me of the wonderful gift we have received, and suggests maybe we all should proudly walk around with spoons in our.pockets. Blessings.
